HEYR - HEAR - HERE - HOYR

The HEYR series currently consists of 39 works. HEYR is a work-in-progress, and will be expanded over time.

“Ambisonics”, “3D Audio”, “24:2”, “Soundscape”?

HEYR utilises the amazing possibilities of 3D ambisonics field recordings to be able to experience a physical presence at exactly that place, at that time - demounting your ears, moving them to where the sound is.

• Up close and intimate: The tarmac beneath Floyd’s neck, the sweat from protesters in Jerusalem, the breath of the Talib, vibrations in the “Pump House”

• a little further away: the echoes inside Crematorie-I in Auschwitz, the George Floyd Square intersection of Chicago Av and E38th St.

• further away: the surroundings of the place, the city noise, the plane overhead, distant voices, the smell of burning tyres

The actual work:

• HEYR captures sound in “potent” places in the world. Places where news and headlines and headlines are made, and history is written

• where meticulous work is done over time doing field recordings with special microphones (Ambisonics)

• in order to preserve the intimate connection to the place, the sound is kept mostly un-editid, and minimally processed afterwards in studio

• a minimalistic video is assembled from a few images from the actual recording situation, linking the sound to its immediate surroundings - the wall, the door, the sign, the pavement, the waves etc - without taking attention
